1 Thessalonians 5:16 says, “Rejoice always,” or in other words, “Be joyful at all times.” At first glance, that might sound unrealistic. How can anyone be joyful always—even in the middle of disappointment, stress, or pain? But if God commands it, He also equips us for it. This kind of joy isn’t about pretending everything is fine or ignoring the hard stuff. It’s deeper than happiness. It’s a joy rooted in who God is, not in how things are going. Let’s explore what it means to live with a joy that lasts—even when life gets tough.
