The Director of Finance & Human Resources is to work directly with office staff, directors, and other employees at The Amazima School and Amazima Ministries International. Standard office and operating hours are kept. As a Director you will be expected to uphold a high standard of care, cooperation, organization, and attitude in the workplace while exhibiting Amazima’s values. This position is based in Jinja, Uganda.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Finance
- Lead the Finance team consisting of two direct reports and two indirect reports.
- Oversee the recording, classifying and summarizing of accounting transactions in the system (Sage Intacct) in accordance with established procedures and ensure suitable records are kept to justify all payments.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Review and approve all payments.
- Review & approve balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring checklists are followed and deadlines are met.
- Ensure monthly Budget vs Actual reporting and variance analysis is provided to each department by the Finance team.
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to Stateside.
- Provide monthly reporting to the Managing Director.
- Guide the team with resolving complex accounting inquiries and transactions.
- Review & process payroll monthly.
- Attend annual external audit entry and exit meetings for both Ugandan entities and ensure recommendations are resolved and implemented timely.
- Oversee Internal Audit component of the team and ensure the lead is supported.
- Oversee annual forecasting and budgeting process for Ugandan entities.
- Build relationships with all of Amazima’s departments and guide them on Finance processes.
- Primary liaison with Stateside Finance team, including but not limited to, financial reporting, payments to be made out of the US entity, and requests from the CEO.
- Ensure Finance policies are maintained and distributed periodically.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – HUMAN RESOURCES
- Lead the Human Resources team consisting of one direct report, the HR Manager, and two indirect reports.
- Interact regularly with the legal team to ensure compliance with Ugandan labor law and proper execution of policies and procedures.
- Lead performance management across the organization.
- Guide the HR Manager in complex decisions and problem solving.
- Implement new initiatives as needed, such as people manager training and goal-setting.
- Continual process improvements and enhancements.
- Ensure organization-wide communications and updates are well-executed and done regularly.
- Provide monthly reporting to the Managing Director.
