In a world full of noise and distractions, it can be easy to forget just how powerful our influence really is. We often hear about the things we shouldn’t do—stay away from bad company, don’t pick up harmful habits, avoid negative behaviors. But what about the positive side? What should we do? What does God call us to be in this world?
Jesus gives us a powerful picture in Matthew 5:13: “You are the salt of the earth.” This might sound simple at first, but salt was incredibly valuable in biblical times—used both for flavoring food and preserving it from spoiling. It’s a vital ingredient that improves and protects. When Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, He’s saying our lives should season and preserve the world around us.
