Week 39 Introduction

Imagine a lion is charging at someone — full speed, teeth bared, no chance to escape. Now imagine you’re the only one standing between that person and the lion. Would you jump in front of it to protect them?
Most of us would only consider such a sacrifice for someone we love deeply — a sibling, a parent, a child, or a close friend. Even then, it would be terrifying. Risking your life like that isn’t something you’d do lightly.
Now consider this: that’s exactly what God did for us — not when we were His friends, but while we were still turning away from Him. Jesus didn’t hesitate. He didn’t wait until we had cleaned ourselves up. He stepped in front of the “lion” — our sin, our guilt, the punishment we deserved — and took it all on Himself.
That kind of love is hard to comprehend. But it’s real. And it’s the foundation of the assurance we have in Christ.
