Think about salt’s two main uses—seasoning and preservation. As followers of Christ, we are called to “season” our world by bringing God’s truth and love into every area of life, making it better, more vibrant, more meaningful. We are also called to “preserve” what is good and holy by standing against evil and decay, protecting others from harmful influences through our example and love.
But what happens if salt loses its saltiness? It becomes useless—something to be discarded. In the same way, if we lose our spiritual influence—if we stop living under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and rely only on our own strength—our witness becomes ineffective.
Now, think about your own circles—your friends, classmates, family, and your community here at Amazima. How many of you see yourselves as leaders or influencers in these groups? What qualities make someone a leader? Is it just about being “good,” or is there something more?
Sure, making wise choices like avoiding harmful habits, working hard, and treating others well is important. But being the “salt of the earth” is more than just good behavior—it’s about living under the influence of the Holy Spirit. It’s the Spirit’s power in us that changes hearts and shapes lives, not just our effort to be good.
There are many people who do good things and live moral lives, but don’t follow Jesus. What’s the difference between them and a believer? It’s the presence of the Holy Spirit living within us. That’s what gives us the power to truly impact the world for God’s kingdom.
